Who it’s for
Companies that want their staff using AI chat without sending company information to a public chatbot.
The problem
Staff already paste company documents, customer details and numbers into public AI chatbots to get work done. Once it’s pasted, it’s on someone else’s servers.
PortalAI gives everyone the same kind of chat inside the company. Only your staff can sign in, and with a local model every message stays on your own machine.
What it does
- Microsoft work sign-in
- Staff sign in with the Microsoft 365 accounts they already have. Their profile is set up the first time they sign in.
- No Microsoft 365? PortalAI accounts
- An admin adds each person and sends them a one-time link to set their own password.
- Your company’s name on it
- Set the name once and it shows across the app and in the browser tab, for example “AcmeAI”.
- Conversations
- Start, rename and delete conversations, and pick up any earlier one where you left off.
- Answers as they’re written
- Replies stream in word by word, and leaving or starting a new chat stops the one in progress.
- A fair queue
- When many people ask the local model at once, each person is told they’re in line, and their place, instead of a frozen screen.
- Personal instructions
- Each person can save custom instructions that shape the answers they get, and keep private notes.
- Local or cloud models
- Runs a local model through Ollama, or OpenAI’s models with your own OpenAI key.
How it runs
PortalAI runs on a computer or server on your network that your IT team hosts; staff open it in a browser and sign in.
With a local model through Ollama, every message stays on your own machine and there is no per-question cost.
OpenAI’s models are optional. You use your own OpenAI key and OpenAI bills you directly.
